Social Media Marketing.

We know the drill.

Or so we think we do.

Get as many followers as you can.

Befriend as many people as you can.

Let people know how many view your videos.

And let people know that you are on over 400 social sites. Get as many people on your group as you can- and then email them daily. Get the numbers up-up-up! And then focus on MORE numbers- and do not worry about any Value that you need to bring to the table. It is all about NUMBERS and it you have them-you will do fine. THAT is how you market in social media- and you MUST follow the leaders that propose that- THEY know best!!!

Just read an article about someone that was saying that twitter is getting as many people as you can to follow you, and then you send them advertisments everyday. and DO NOT let up- until they unfollow you. THEN you direct message them.

Can you say SPAMMER?

Who sold you on that concept? Marketing is a delicate balance in the socialsphere- no doubt. But that balance many times is way out of balance.

Many people focus on Volume and Numbers and not Value and Names.

Social Media Marketing is about VALUE first- as long term Volume in any corporate of home business will be a result of that. Yes, you need to get some people to follow you on twitter- but how about bringing REAL Value to them- instead of trying to pump out a Volume of sales to them first?

Ths Social Media Marketing Model is defined by us as “Connection Marketing”- not “Conjob marketing” as so many people seem to attempt on the social scene. Get over it- as people see though that. You MUST grasp the reality that marketing in the social media arena is VALUE Driven- and VALUE focused.

THEN you can start the Volume Conversation.

Chris Brogan, Valeria Maltoni, Scott Monty, Joel Comm, Shama Hyder- and many more- all GET THE FACT that Social Media Marketing is based first on foremost on what Value you bring to the conversation. What NEW ideas and possibilities are you sharing? HOW can you help them move past where they are? What can you do to make sure their experience with you is UNFORGETTABLE? Once people then start to trust you- then the Volume Conversation can be brought in- at the right time.

Value or Volume?

It is a fine balance- and between the two, Value is the REAL catalyst for Success with Volume in Social Media marketing.

  1. Great post, couldn’t agree more. It’s not about pure numbers. But nor is it about some wished for engagement metric. More a blend of the two – your key target audiences being engaged in conversations that are relevant and beneficial to your business or your brand. More here for those interested:

  2. Very well said. A great point that if you provide value, numbers will follow. I think that’s something that companies will understand, and relate to a bit better than just being told to establish relationships.
